Happy New Years! I've decide to start 2017 with some Warhammer news. At the time of my Winter Update I had no idea where to go on the Warhammer front. I've since settled on a plan that has multiple parts. The initial part is to build my Age of Sigmar Poison army.
The idea behind my Poison Army is Clan Pestilens Skaven mix with Warriors of Chaos Nurgle with some demons thrown in. One of the reason I'm going with it is because its both new and a continuation of what I already have. The Skaven is going to be a new experience for me, both from the aspect of painting "skin" oppose to my mostly metal force and for the first time dealing with something closer to a horde army. Also I have zero Skaven models so this part of the army will be all new. On the Chaos side I can fall back on stuff I'm more comfortable with and already have a lot of. But I will be taking my Chaos in a different direction. I will be doing a slightly different Nurgle paint scheme that will match my Skavens. I'm hoping for a balance between having the Poison Army look like a different force from my main Chaos army and yet have some of the Nurgle parts that could still fit into my old army. Not sure I can pull it off but that is my goal. Also if I do have Forsaken in my Poison Army they will be different from my original plans. My Poison Army won't have the corrupting nature theme of my current Nurgle force so kitbashing Chaos Warriors with Dryads doesn't really fit. Kitbashing Chaos Warriors with rat models would be perfect but all of the Skaven line is either too small or too big for that, I think. I have thought up of other conversion I could do, like a Chaos chariot being pulled my giant rats (or the wheels get replace by rats). Now that I've settle in for what I'm going to do, the ideas for conversion is overflowing.
I've actually played very few games of Age of Sigmar and I've only recently began to digest the point system in the General's Handbook. I'm a little afraid of coming up with a list that isn't competitive. My first few games will be friendly matches with a friend so this won't matter at first but I eventually want to travel to events with my Poison Army and I don't want to get smash because I have a bad list (getting smash because I'm playing better players is a different story and that is fine with me). In any case I will be sticking to my theme and will try to improve my army in any way that doesn't departs from said theme. There are a couple of things I still haven't settle on. I hear that in the fluff every clan has clan rats but I'm not sure if I want to add them to my force. Beside going further to being a horde army than I want, clan rats can't get the Pestilens and/or Nurgle keywords. I don't know all the problems that will cause but I'm not sure clan rats will be worth the cost. They do have the benefit of still being sold with square bases. As I'm still a fan of 8th edition I want as much as my army to be usable in both systems. With the official end of 8th edition I find square bases are harder to come by, at least with Games Workshop models. This more than anything else makes the clan rats tempting. The other thing is that I was never a fan of Skaven warmachines (which is why I never collected them before now). However if I don't take warmachines that doesn't leave a lot left to fill my army with Pestilens stuff. I will probably have to just bite the bullet and pickup the plague warmachines.
My initial plan purchase is a box of Plague Monks, Plague Censer Bearers and a Plague Priest (or two). I also want to pick a box Chaos Knights fairly early on. Later on I want to pick up a second box of Plague Monks and the Verminlord Corruptor. This along with an unit of striped and repainted Chaos Warriors is going to be my core force. After getting some games in I will decide where to go from there. In my mind I want a rough mix of 50/50% even split between Skaven and Chaos, if not a little more Skaven. I am worry about the cost of getting that much Skaven plus I know there is so much more Chaos stuff I want to consider like a Warshrine, Forsakens, chariots and more. And I forgot to mention a box of Plaguebearers in there. The best part about this army is that it is easy for my to try out new things with it. I already own a lot of Chaos and my friend has a ton of Skaven and a 40k Nurgle army I could borrow to test out options. This is probably the one of the few armies I could build while play testing and not have to do any kind of proxies.
My Poison Army is only the first part of my Warhammer plans. Once I have my core force assembled and painted, I will start designing an AoS campaign. The other reason I'm going with the Poison Army is that I came up with a campaign to use it in. The storyline for the campaign is new as well as connected to my current World of Chaos plot. I need to finish some unpublish lore but I will deal with that once I'm actually working on the campaign. I'm sure between Phil and myself we have enough models to start the campaign immediately but I really want my core army to be painted first. I want any battle report pictures to look like there is a unified threat. Even using Phil models will still fit the narrative as they will represent hired on mercenaries. I plan on hiring mercenaries to be a big part of the campaign itself.
And those are my plans for Warhammer in 2017. Will start it off with a box of Plague Monks next month. Let is how it goes. Thanks for reading and I hope the new year will be a good one for you. Until next time.

Holy Moon/Scarlet Nights Intro
The land of Thylalon is protected by the guardian Lady Vivianna. She is beloved by Thylalon's people and in return she empowers Thylalon's defenders. Lady Vivianna's powers of precognition foresees dark days ahead and the Thylalon kingdom is not ready to deal with the upcoming threats. She tells King Dylan and his knights that they must undertake a dangerous quest that will end with the deaths of many beloved knights. If they refuses or fail in this quest, then everything they hold dear will be no more!
Holy Moon/Scarlet Nights is my serial fantasy fiction series. Key elements of the story will be decide by the results of various games such as Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Holy Moon/Scarlet Nights will be release as chapters and episodes. Chapters are entire story arcs made up of multiple episodes. Episodes are the individual story post. Episode titles will be based on the chapter it is from. For example the third episode of the first chapter will be entitled "1.3" while the fifth episode of chapter seven would be "7.5". The story will be told in two ways. Text post which will tell the story just like any other piece of fiction and with battle reports which is a description of what happen during a game that is apart of the story. I will be using two types of battle reports. Summary reports will give an overall description of what happen and will treat the event like a game. That means it will include game concepts such as army list, dice rolls and custom rules if any that were used in the game. Dramatic reports will summarize events in a narrative style. Any concepts that are game system specific will not be included in dramatic reports. Battle report titles will be named after the episode that sets up its events. So the battle report based on episode 3.6 will be entitled either "Summary Report 3.6" or "Dramatic Report 3.6". If a single episode sets up the events of multiple games then the corresponding titles would include a letter ie "3.6 A", "3.6 B" and so on.
The story centers around King Dylan and his knights which will be represented as Bretonnia in Warhammer Fantasy. As the story progresses other actors will take stage in the narrative represented by different Warhammer armies. Age of Sigmar will probably be used when the battles are either smaller or one of the forces don't neatly fit into one of Warhammer Fantasy armies. My personal collection is not as big as I would like and a lot of it still needs to be painted. My friend's collections is probably about half fully painted, half only assembled. I don't actually own a Bretonnia army yet. I will be putting together one as I am writing this series. Many of the early games will be done with my friend's Bretonnia army along with a lot of proxying. Hopefully by the end of the year the battle reports will be done with my own fully painted models.
In addition to the above I will be doing Author's Notes post as needed to keep readers inform on my current progress. These will be for discussing scheduling delays, answering fan questions or behind the scene elements I want to share. The Author's Notes are separate from my general Chaos Updates for the blog which I try to do every 3 to 5 months. I am a little behind where I wanted to be at this point so I will probably won't get to a battle report this month. Chapter 1, Episode 1 should still be out before the end of the month. I've never done a serial series before so it might take me a while to find my rhythm. I hope you will follow me along this journey and enjoy the ride. Until next time.

The Arkyrian Cabal
While most enemies are easy to recognize, there is a threat to the world that is invisible to most eyes. A threat that has threads into nearly every nation or military force. That threat is the Arkyrian Cabal, a secret society of wizards whom true loyalties lies with themselves and the organization. Being among the most accomplish wielders of magic in the world, the Arkyrian's members have earn positions of great influence as advisors, court magician, and the like in numerous armies or nations. Using their influence Cabal members have siphon wealth and information from their home nation into the coffers of the secret society. Because this spying is not to another nation, their deceit is nearly impossible to catch. Spying aside, members do help their home nation to the best of their abilities until that nation's goals are in opposition to the goals of the Arkyrian Cabal. In that case members will not hesitant to bring their home nation to ruin.
An unique aspect of the Arkyrian Cabal is that even the members do not know the identity of other Arkyrian members. At their meetings every member wears oversize hooded robes to hide their features. While there they are given a large medallion to wear around their neck. Each medallion has a different letter engraved on it. These letters have no importance other than a means of identifying the member who wears it. None of the members even know exactly how many Arkyrian Cabal members there are total. Estimates are around 20 to 30 "grand" members and around hundred "lesser" members. Cabal meetings usually take place in deep caves or underground caverns that are dimly lit to help mask peoples identities. There is usually three to six very large alcoves in the meeting hall. They are always filled with a deep impenetrable darkness that makes vision inside impossible. Members whom wander near these alcoves can feel the powerful presence of something emanating from within the alcoves. Everyone assumes the alcoves hides the identities of the more monstrous members but few knows for sure.
The one entity that knows all of the Arkyrian Cabal's secrets is its mysterious leader. The leader is the one whom created the Arkyrian Cabal and personally convince every member to join while keeping his identity a secret. The members only know two things about their leader: his arcane knowledge is immense and his presence exudes more magical energy than any being they have ever known. Even the most arrogant sorcerer will admit that their leader can wield magic better than themselves in every way possible. Despite his overwhelming power, it was his charismatic leadership plus his willingness to share his knowledge that earn the loyalty of the Arkyrian members. For a handful of members their level of trust for their leader goes beyond this. The mysterious leader acted as a mentor to these members early in their mystic studies. His teachings was what allow some of those members to excel in the arcane arts in the first place. For these members the mysterious leader is not just a source to achieving greatness but more of a father figure.
The goals of the Arkyrian Cabal are simple. They want power. Some wants to be kings or queens, some have other ambitions, but all of them want to increase their own arcane power. By following the orders of the mysterious leader, the Arkyrian Cabal has formed the building blocks of an invisible empire. Scatter across the world the Cabal has hidden military outpost and secret laboratories. These facilities has money and other resources members may need and can tap into. During the Cabal's latest meeting, the mysterious leader announce that enough of these facilities have been setup that the Arkyrian Cabal can now move into the next phase of his plans. He assure his members that soon their personal power will grow and the foundation of the world will shudder!
